News from the old RPG Nation Site

Site Changes - You may or may not have noticed that the site is undergoing a few changes at the moment, the main changes being that for the front page. We now have a working search engine for the site (semi underconstruction, but workable). These changes are being made so that the site is ready for a big announcement we have to make... You'll find out later, what this space!

Winged RaceBig Update - Okay, I know its been over a week since the last update, but we've been super busy! To make up for the lack of news, this update had added a lot more contect to the website. Firstly there is some new artwork by myself and Shawn, so check out the relevant galleries to see what's new. Some new files have been added, our first test character sheet in preperation for the combat testing. The Char sheet is currently at v0.1 so it will change in the future, additional downloads will follow soon to get you playing. The Action points system will soon be ready for the testing! There has been another update to the combat example test spreadsheet, now at V0.312 which corrected a few minor errors. And saving the best til last we welcome a new member to the team... Fleedleflump (Mike Bell), our new talented author who has already started to write some tales of adeventure for our game settings. You can read his work from the newly created Tales & Stories Page (replaces fan zone). We hope you enjoy these as much as we did! That's it for now, remember there is a forum, we're looking to start a great gaming community, so please use it! 8)

Misc Updates - Just some misc site updates today; some more concept art from Shawn for Seven Moons (See his gallary HERE). I have also done some minor updates to many pages, and changed a few button graphics here or there. Finally I have added additional content to the Kaevad Rule Set Guide which you can see HERE. There are other updates, but "they" wont let me talk about them...

New Team Member - RPG Nation are very pleased to announce a new member to the team, Shawn Green. Already am established talented artist Shawn has already begun working on concept art for the forthcoming RPG Nation products. His gallery page can be found HERE.

RPG Nation Products Announced - Today I have updated several pages on the website, nothing really worth mentioning apart from RPG Nations planned release schedule taking us all the way to 2013! We have thirteen planned releases, looks like we are going to be very busy indeed! Check out the Products Page for more information. Hopefully it will get your mouths watering. More exciting news to follow shortly

Combat Test V0.311 Released - The latest version of the combat test has been released V0.311 (267kb) can now be located on the Downloads Page. The M$Excel spreadsheet has some minor bug fixes. Action point planning is going well and I have got the basics of movement sorted as well as different firing modes for ranged weapons. I have decided to delay to release of the test material for this part of the KRS, as I think I may have discovered a mini Eureka! Moment which could do wonders for my design, and add to the uniqueness of the game. watch this space!.

Misc Updates - So much to do and so little time to do it in. The next release of the combat test should be live on the site sometime at the weekend, and today's updates includes a few misc changes to a couple of web pages and some more concept artwork added to the gallery page. A hexagon game map grid has been added to the downloads section in preperation for action point and movement tests. Enjoy!

SoldierConcept Art and Design Woes - Apologies for the late update, its been a rather hectic week, including a business / holiday trip to France. One of our concept artists; AG King has been working on some ideas for our forthcoming game settings Seven Moons and some other ideas we have brewing. The gallery page now features 29 of these concept ideas with more to follow in due course. Regarding the KRS construction, I'm in the middle of trying to sort out an issue regarding armour and damage taken. Currently the the mechanics take in account of a standard armour rating when inflicting damage. I have not yet gone into specific armour types and what they protect until now, which is causing the problem. Basically If i now choose to inplement head, arm or leg armour etc, each piece should protect that body part, but then does that mean I should allocate hit points for those particluar body parts or come up with some other methods that will both seem realsitic and easily workable. The game design needs to avoid complexity as much as possible. Hopefully I should have a fix for this later this week, and will include the new mechanics in the next working test file.

Combat Test V0.31 Released - The latest version of the combat test has been released V0.31 (267kb) can now be located on the Downloads Page. The M$Excel spreadsheet is easier to use and understand and now has the addition of cover protection added to it. Work is progressing well with the combat system, and we are currently in the process of designing the action points system for movement and actions upon the battle fields.

New Files - Two new files have been uploaded today, Combat Test V0.255 (some minor additions) (162kb.xls) and Initiative Testing V0.1 (126kb.xls). This file shows the order of combat for numerous targets, implementing Action Points the higher initiative score receives bonus AP whilst the slowest receives a penalty for the first round of combat. You'll see that the entities are listed by team, could that be something else we are working on? More about that later.

Combat News - Work still continues creating a decent combat system, I've had some pretty good feedback, and also some pretty poor feedback (although this was down to the ignorance of the reviewer). A couple of issues were noted though.... Just because the Combat test was at version 1 . something people all assummed that it was version one as in finished article, and not version 1 as in test. How they moaned about it! Anyway, A few good points were raised which have helped me to develope the system further, and a newer version of the combat test... yes combat test, not finished article is availiable in the downloads section v0.25. Its looking cleaner, and I have implemented one type of attack versus another and a players defence against that attack. The combat test is still simulating a one on one combat without any movement at the moment, again this is so that the mechanics and maths can be tested before advancing to the next stage. I am currently working on advanced initiative rolls, the beginnings of action points, and protection obtained from cover, hopefully these will be live in the next few days or so. One point i must mention is that the test M$Excel spreadsheets have been created in M$Excel 2007, I have saved them to be compatible with older versions of the programs, but if you have any problems then please let me know as soon as possible. Also, I have removed the instructions to the test spreadsheets, apparantly my grammer needs a hell of a lot of work (which is probably true). Anyway, the spreadsheets should be easy enough to work out if you can put 2 and 2 together. I'll reimplement the guide to thier use when im closer to completion.

AssassinCombat Rules Reworked - After much studying and reviewing V1.01 of KRS combat I have seen several issues that need fixing, the main one being that they system seemed to be over complicating itself for no real reason. It is my main intention to have an easy to use system, so an overhaul was required. The original system threw in a lot of negative numbers if characters had poor attributes or skills. I know for a fact that when it comes to maths, people do not like having to incorporate negative numbers as it gets a little confusing. So what has been done to fix it? Well simply, I have removed attribute and skill modifiers from the Rule Set. I was thinking what is the point of having a positive or negative modifier to a stat/skill when the actual value itself should be incorporated as well, you'll see what I mean when you visit the Rule Set Page for details. Some other changes have been made as well, including making the Destiny Attribute more important to players. Site Updates - Today has been a bit of a site tidying and minor updating kind of day (still takes bloody ages!), anyway the changes are... Whilst proving a brief demonstration of the basic combat example spreadsheet, I noticed a couple of iffy cell references. After fixing these, v1.0 is now v1.01 and can be found at the Downloads Page. I have decided a small part of my soul to the devil, in the premise of bringing more traffic to the website by joining a banner exchange. I hate banners, and i know a lot of other people do as well. So to keep thier intrusions to a minimum I have located them at the bottom of the page. The banners are all RPG related, so you may actually see something of interest (if you even notice the banners). Lots of mini coding and minor contents changes made to most pages, nothing worth mentioning if you have seenn the pages before, and you won't even know the difference if you have not seen the pages before. The Archives Page now has content, and will feature older news stories / update information which is no longer on the front page. RPG Nation / Kaevad Games / KRS logos have been added to the Downloads Page.

Work, Work, Work - Well the holidays is done and dusted, and its time to get back to work. Kaevad Games are happy to announce the creation of a new brandname to be associated to our forthcoming products. Aptly called RPG Nation. An Additional web address (http://www.rpgnation.co.uk) now also points to this website. The Rule Set Page is currently being updated to give you an idea as to how the RPG Ruleset works, this systen will be the same for any Tabletop Board Games we also produce, Keep checking the page, i'll add more information in due course.

Holidays - Just a quick update, The Kaevad Rule Set Logo has now been designed. I'm also away on holiday for a few weeks, so updating will continue when I get back. Try not to miss me too much!

Armed ElfGame World Setting Announced - We are very happy to announce, our very first game world setting: Seven Moons. Imagine the wonders of the epic films Master & Commander, Treasure Island and of course Pirates of the Caribbean. Then simply rewrite history add a major twist and place it gently into a brand new universe.... A setting of flying islands, distant moons and wonderus treasures. Site Construction Update - Construction of the website continues, some additional pages have been added, and rollover elements have been added to the menu buttons, hopefully these also fixed some overflow errors that some browsers experiencing. Also, the site has experienced its first piece of robot email spam on a form submission, so I have had to implement a security check after each submission. Sorry for any hassle this may cause.
