Welcome to RPG Nation (brought to you by Kaevad Games), bespoke creators of traditional Role Playing Games (RPGs), Board Games and Table Top Battle/War Games.

Each game created uses the newly designed Kaevad Rule Set (KRS) providing gamers with a unique, versatile and easy to use system.

The KRS aims to reduce the amount of complexity which is generally associated to most other RPGS, so players can spend more time enjoying the game they are playing instead of hunting through manuals for a tiny technical rule. It can be assumed that from the methods employed by the KRS, that it does the hard work for you, so you don’t have to.

Ship ConceptOnce you have learnt how to use the KRS (it's simple to pickup!), you’ll easily be able to create your own adventures in any setting of your choosing. Same character sheets, same rules system, all you need to do is add, remove or create any character skills to suit your preferred game scenario.

The KRS uses a unique 3d10 system, which is both fun and realistic. The simplicity of the KRS means that you can do away with having to deal with all the different dice types, so instead of using d4s, d6s, d8s etc, you can simply enjoy your gaming experience using just one dice, a d10 (three if you have them).

What's more, we have decided to make the main KRS system FREE, you won't need to pay a penny for it. Other gaming systems are constantly being updated with new versions and editions, and thier customer base are having to to purchase these new rules to stay constant with the game. At RPG Nation, we would like to spare our customers and fans from this expense. We know that our game rules will constantly be developed, we don't think we could ever really release a wholly complete version. So people can just download the latest version of the KRS when ever they like!

So what do we charge for? we'll ofcourse not everything is free, we will be charging a very modest fee for our game worlds and the quests within them. But never fear, as we have mentioned, from the free ruleset we are providing, gamers will have all the tools they need to create their own adventures.

I'm a married thirty something, living in the UK, who has had his head in the clouds for the last thirty something years. For almost twenty of those years I've been trying to create RPG system and board games, but never really got around to finishing them. In the middle of 2009 I finally got the drive to put 100% effort into creating a new and unqiue system, and RPG Nation / Kaevad Games was born. Kaevad is my online identity, so any google searches will more than likely be me. I originally decided that Kaevad Games would be used as the company name to in a way immortalise me. It was only when I saw sense that a more marketable brand name was required, Hence the creation of RPG Nation. My Worlds, my nations, my games, my rules.

My RPG gaming experience has mainly come from a computer gamer's background, although I spent many a year in my teens playing AD&D 2nd Edition, which was good fun whilst it lasted. Then along comes the girls and interest for the RPGing kinda went out of the window. Now I have my life on track, I've been able to spend time once more to go back to my past and make up for my neglect of the RPG games.

I have a very vivid imagination, which has helped in a great way to create our gaming worlds and quests. My main influences come from reading science fiction and fantasy novels. My favourite authors being Simon R Green, Elizabeth Moon, Terry Pratchett and Raymond E Feist. For some recommended titles check out the suggested readings page.

Kaevad if you are interested is Dave then my initials A & K backwards. You may well find a music artist going by the same name, and it would indeed be me. If you're interested in listening to some of the music i have written (Dance & Trance) then simply click my logo below.

Greetings fellow gamers,

I have been asked to write a small introduction to describe myself and talk about my past gaming experience. As you may or may not know I am a concept artist for RPG Nation. I'm thirty-three and happily married. My wife and I have four children. We live in a rural town in Iowa. I have worked a variety of jobs over the years, from construction to manufacturing. I worked briefly as a tattoo artist and currently I work in IT. My first love has always been art and when I found out RPG Nation was looking for help I didn't hesitate to make contact. Since that fateful day I have been busier than ever! I joined the team just a short time ago and I have to say my creative energies have never been so taxed. From discussions on rules and settings, to penciling and digital illustrations; my days have been non stop creative brainstorming and a hell of a lot of fun!

I have had a lot of exposure playing a variety of games from over the years. My first gaming session was none other than the original DnD, where the Elf was a player class and not an optional race. I sat down and played my first game as a 13 year old kid and I have been hooked on fantasy and science fiction ever since. I remember arguing with friends when the 1st edition of DnD came out. I could not figure out why one of my friends wanted to play a Monk so badly. I understood the rules but somehow I missed the whole eastern feel and instead imagined over weight friars in brown robes with "bowl" styled hair cut. Ooops my bad.

PirateBy the time I was in high school DnD Second Edition was on the market. I felt like that was TSR's best version of the classic game. I know there are many that would argue with me about rules and combat styles and in short they would be right. But for me 2nd Ed was really where DnD fell into its own. With the advent of Spelljammer, Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, Dark Sun and Planescape DnD was able to take any group of players into the realms of fantasy-horror to straight laced fantasy to fantasy-science fiction.

With the advent of 3rd edition and then 4th; DnD became a system bogged down by rules. The free play and easy going attitudes we had back in the nineties were destroyed with free hits to the backs of opponents and flat footed weaknesses. The new rules that were created addressed some of the short comings in the 2nd Ed system but the turn around was DnD was no longer recognizable for the basic system it used to be. With every new edition the rules of combat changed and I for one found it more and more difficult to really enjoy playing the game. My friends and I left the game system behind and we've never looked back.

With DnD out of the way my friends and I moved onto a variety of games from a variety of publishers. We played all the different games published by Palladium books and we loved the post apocalyptic world that was Rifts. We played Shadowrun and Cyberpunk. We tried Heroes and GURPS and we even moved into some of the tiles that Whitewolf games published. But Larping was a little too weird, even for us. The truth was no one system was able to hold our attention for very long.

As my friends and I aged our interests changed and we wanted games that had a stronger "edge." We wanted games where hit points didn't run into the hundreds and that the only way for a player to lose his head was through vorpal magic. We wanted games where we felt like "reality" and reality based physics was more of a back bone and that fights didn't occur just because of a long forest walk and a wandering monster or two. In short we wanted games where a kid with a gun was just as much a threat as any other armed combatant. We wanted a fast combat system that rewarded a player for role-playing and using his head.

JasonIn my desire to find a fast game system that reflected a sense of reality, I stopped playing multi-diced games. There’s never been a reason to include so many dice for more or less the same things. Whether a character was making a skill roll for using a car or trying to hit an opponent, there shouldn’t be a need for different dice types. How many of us have experienced a great game with great action only to have the whole scenario stop because a gamer needed to find the right dice for a skill or hit roll? One type of die, never changing allows for quick results without stopping game play.

At RPG Nation we are working on a game system that allows for fast play and a sense of reality based combat. Since our games are going to be set in a variety of time lines we need to make sure that whether a character is using a bow or high powered laser rifle our game system can accommodate anyone at any time without complications or lag time. We want our system to be fast, flexible and above all else, fun. So that's what we're working on at RPG Nation and hopefully we will be able to hit this right on the nose.
